Scrum Master/Agile Coach - Edinburgh

Positions available in Edinburgh and Glasgow

Adopting Agile/Lean software development practices to support efficient, responsive, commercially-focused software development and delivery in the Financial Services sector. Empowering team members through continuous improvement based on the adoption of the latest software engineering methods.


Facilitate daily team synchronisation stand-ups/scrums, sprint planning sessions, retrospectives and sprint delivery demos/show-and-tells;

Engage proactively with Product Owners to maintain the product backlogs, with a focus on ensuring that backlog items/requirements are ready for planning into a sprint;

Promote active collaboration between the multi-disciplinary participants in team;

Take proactive ownership of issues that could impact delivery of team commitments, reaching out to the wider Head of Software Delivery, IT community, Product Owners or other stakeholders to facilitate impediment removal;

Develop relevant metrics that help the team see how they are progressing and provide management insight regarding the performance of the team;

Ensure that dependencies with other teams across the firm or with third parties are highlighted during sprint planning sessions and managed accordingly;

Work closely with the Head of Software Delivery to develop a continuous improvement programme that seeks to empower the team through adoption of best practice tools and methods;

Adhere to the firm’s Information Security standards, policies and procedures;

Engage with the wider community of delivery management practitioners across the firm.

Minimum Qualifications:

Degree-level education.

Certified qualification as a Scrum Master (preferably via Scrum Alliance or Scrum. org)


Strong experience working as Scrum Master/Agile Coach in software development;

Strong knowledge of broader Agile methodologies and frameworks, e.g. Lean and Kanban;

Strong track record of timely, quality delivery using Agile methodologies;

Strong understanding of the principles of Agile Software Development with respect to responsive planning, close engagement with business, clear prioritisation and incremental development of software products;

Understand best practice software engineering tools and methodologies, able to speak intelligently about them with stakeholders;

Understand the role of Agile frameworks and the importance of commitments made to delivery by a development team, removing impediments and protecting the team such that they can achieve those commitments;

Understand the value of metrics such as estimates and actuals, burn down and velocity;

Good knowledge of release management processes and tools as used in industrial software development and deployment, e.g. VSTS Release Management;

Experience of supporting live systems, e.g. production support and operational tasks;

Strong understanding of the roles, relationships and dependencies in multi-disciplinary teams, e.g. engineer, modelling analyst, QA, BA, product owner;

Strong technical background (experience of working as software engineer preferred);

Experience of working in Financial Services preferred.
